VESPERTINE

Catkin sniffs the evening air,
nocturnal fragrances drift by.
A field mouse scurries unaware
observed by vigilant green eyes.

Nocturnal fragrances drift by,
birds are rustling in the trees
observed by vigilant green eyes.
Sharp ears twitch with feline glee.

Birds are rustling in the trees
as creatures of the night entice.
Sharp ears twitch with feline glee,
anticipation of the chase.

As creatures of the night entice
haunches tremble with delight,
anticipation of the chase.
A jaguar hunting in the night.

Haunches tremble with delight,
he's much wilder than before,
a jaguar hunting in the night
above the tangled jungle floor.

He's much wilder than before,
having grown carelessly bold.
Above the tangled jungle floor
are secrets that the dark enfolds.

Having grown carelessly bold
a field mouse scurries unaware
of secrets that the dark enfolds.
Catkin sniffs the evening air.
